The posture of dance captured in a few brushstrokes
Nataraja means 'King of Dance.' Natarajasana is a yoga pose where you stand on one foot, lift the other foot back, and open your chest wide. It is a pose where you can only truly stop still when the power of holding and the power of opening arise simultaneously within the body.
Artist Park Dara condensed that moment of balance into just a few brushstrokes. Without fully depicting the outlines of the body, she left the energy of the posture solely through the spaces where ink had passed and the empty areas left behind. It is a painting where the blank spaces between the lines feel like breath the longer you gaze at it.
We print them one by one, exactly as the original.
Brush and ink → Silkscreen
I transferred the original ink drawing directly onto a silkscreen plate and printed them one by one by pushing the ink with a squeegee at the studio window. Each time I lifted the plate, the ink lines settled onto the paper, and the printed postcards were placed side by side on the windowsill to dry slowly.
Unlike digital printing, the ink is applied thickly to the paper, so if you look closely, you can feel the trembling of the brush and the texture of the ink lines at your fingertips. Because it is printed by hand, the density of the lines varies slightly from sheet to sheet, giving all 50 sheets a slightly different expression.
Limited to 50 copies · Unique serial number on back
Only 50 copies of this postcard were printed. A unique serial number is written on the back of each one. The number I received is a one-of-a-kind, small edition print.
Park Dara, a yoga teacher and a person who draws lines
Artist Park Dara is a yoga instructor who runs Dara Yoga Studio in Jeju, teaches yoga, and conducts "Dara Day," a 20-minute online yoga session every day. She continues her work of transferring the sensations of the body, lingering on the mat for a long time, into brush and ink.
Hanging by the studio window are a calligraphy of Om (ॐ) and a painting of a meditating person. The act of drawing lines as if regulating one's breath, and then transferring those lines onto a plate to print. The time spent in yoga is fully infused into artist Park Dara's paintings.
Keep it by your side like this.
· small framed picture — Place in a 5×7 inch frame on a desk or shelf. A matte frame with ample margin makes it even more serene.
· Yoga and meditation space If you lean it against the mat or near the incense burning area, it serves as a small marker to calm your mind before practice.
· Cards to accompany gifts — Try writing a short message and giving it to a friend who practices yoga or someone who has opened a new space.
· The joy of collecting — As it is a numbered limited edition, it makes a great first page of a small print collection.
Storage and Guide
· Silkscreen ink is placed on the paper, so it may be scratched if you rub the image surface hard or press it down for a long time over another piece of paper.
· Please store away from direct sunlight and moisture. If you put it in a frame, you can keep it clean for a long time.
· As these are hand-printed prints, the density of the ink lines, fine ink bleeding, and texture vary slightly from page to page.
· Depending on your screen environment, the color of the paper may appear slightly different from the actual color.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is it Korean Won or a printed material?
A. These are print postcards created by transferring original artworks drawn with brush and ink by artist Park Dara onto silkscreen plates, and then hand-printing them one by one in the studio. Unlike postcards printed with a digital printer, they retain the unique texture of silkscreen where the ink is applied directly to the paper.
Q. What is the number on the back of the postcard?
A. This is the unique serial number for the limited edition of 50 copies. Each postcard has a unique number printed on the back, so there is only one postcard with the same number in the world. If you would like a specific number, please inquire before ordering.
Q. What is the size? Can it be framed?
A. It is 5×7 inches (approx. 12.7×17.8 cm). It fits directly into a readily available 5×7 inch (5R) frame, and if placed in an 8×10 inch frame with a mat, the ample margins make it look more serene.
Q. Is it slightly different for each chapter?
A. Since this is a manual process where ink is pushed one by one with a squeegee, the density of the ink lines and the grain of the edges vary slightly from sheet to sheet. This is not a defect, but rather the unique character of hand-printed prints.
Q. Can I send it by letter?
A. It is nice to write a short message on the back and give it along with a gift. When sending by mail, we recommend placing it in an envelope to prevent the image from getting scratched.
Q. What happens if all 50 copies are sold?
A. Since these postcards are produced in a limited run of 50 copies, sales will end once the stock is sold out.
Q. Can I see this in stores as well?
A. You can view and purchase items in person at the Composition lifestyle select shop in Sinchon-ri, Jocheon-eup, Jeju. As we maintain inventory in both the online store and the physical store, stock levels may vary depending on the time.
